Mariana Rio (b. 1986) graduated in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto in 2008 and spent one semester studying at the Academy of Fine Arts of Wroclaw. 

When she is not teaching, you can find her at her own studio in Porto, from where she develops concepts, creates narratives, possible and impossible worlds, real and imaginary characters. 

Her clients are publishing houses, graphic design studios, companies and people around the world, such as tais como Sexto Piso Editorial, Editorial Milrazones, Pato Lógico, Circo de Ideias, BasBleu Illustration, Studio Dobra, Illusalon and Slanted Magazine. 

Her work has been acknowledged over the years by the Illustrators Exhibition of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (2012 and 2018), the AOI World Illustration Awards (2016), the Nami Island International Picture Book Illustration Competition (2015) and the Portuguese national illustration prize (2013 e 2015), among others.
