NO WALLS Oeiras 2021

We abandon the walls, but we do not renounce to artistic creation on the streets.
We assume the political and social dimension of Art, active and of activism.
We aspire to free thinking, to a reflection on the values of freedom(s).
With no prejudices, no limitations, no walls.

NO WALLS Oeiras is an artistic intervention project in public space curated by Lara Seixo Rodrigues, which arises from an invitation from the Municipality of Oeiras to Mistaker Maker, in the context of the cultural platform Mural 18 of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

At the moment that Oeiras is applying for the European Capital of Culture - Oeiras 27, thinking and challenging visions for the public space through the arts is a process that is worth valuing.

Under the proposed theme of Liberdade, recognized and emerging artists designed a circuit with works in various locations in the Municipality, marking different axes of municipal action.

The choice of the name NO WALLS has multiple meanings, from the outset the disruptive literality of leaving the usual supports of urban art, when artists are proposed to carry out interventions in a structure, which, on the one hand, standardizes all supports, also challenges the artist to work from a new perspective, questioning the field of action of his artistic practice and the agreed limits of Urban Art (or Urban Arts).

Thus, using the concept of travel and map, challenges are proposed for circulation and reading of the city's fabric, its material, immaterial and natural heritage, by disseminating artistic interventions in an exercise in action in the landscape.

Aiming at the promotion of artistic creation in public space and the emergence and/or recognition of talent in this territory, the NO WALLS project promoted an Open Call for artists residing in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (Portuguese or foreign), which resulted in the 9th artist who integrated this circuit.
