Pedro Podre (b. 1988) is a painter and illustrator from Porto.
His figurative paintings explore narratives about childhood, escapism, identity and anxieties of the 21st century.
Appropriating the logic of the narrative of illustrations, and the aesthetics of comics and animation, his work presents tragic-comic allegories about suburban life, fears and uncertainties in an era of information overload.
His work focuses on the figure, and his relationship with others and the world. Their characters are sometimes the result of technological misuse, such as mutations, cybernetization or bio-hacking, externalizing the author's internal observations and conflicts from a personal and confessional point of view, using language similar to a cartoon to illustrate narratives sometimes more somber.
