REWIND | rewind for a fresh start

In March 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, Mistaker Maker received an invitation to organize an online collective exhibition, as a way to celebrate Europe Day.

It was urgent to retain this unique moment and the online collective exhibition REWIND was presented as a result of the challenge launched to a group of renowned Portuguese artists, to create unprecedented works, in their particular context of confinement and with naturally limited resources*, that reflect on the issues, the patterns, changes and hopes that this individual, European and global time and condition instigated.

±MaisMenos±, Aheneah, Catarina Glam, Mantraste, Pantónio, Raquel Belli, Tamara Alves, The Empty Belly and Tiago Galo, composed the group that exuded a full diversity: of aesthetics, techniques, processes, training, experiences, of gender, generations and geographies. A diversity, which finds a parallel in the very European plurality that was celebrated with REWIND, a term that should never be understood as a setback or regression.

On the contrary, the set of pieces presented here spoke of new cycles, returns, new beginnings and rebirths, old and new times that are told at different speeds, touch, tensions in proximity, shadows, extremes, of invisible enemies that reconcile, of hope and peace.

REWIND was the contribution of nine voices, nine artists, who on the 9th of May 2020, when Europe Day was celebrated, joined a global stage that aimed to exalt the whole that represents and aspires to the present and future for the European Union: solidarity, cooperation, cohesion, respect and resilience.

* All works were carried out during the State of National Emergency (April 2020).
