V-I-A | VALONGO ARTISTIC INTERVENTIONS 2021
V-I-A | Valongo Artistic Interventions is a project of artistic intervention in public space, which aims to establish dialogues between the territory and its brands, between its unique and identity heritage and the community (resident and visitor), which aims to be the guiding and intermediary thread in this communication between the universes and territories that compose the Municipality of Valongo.
Over several months, V-I-A will tour all the parishes of Valongo: Alfena, Campo, Ermesinde, Sobrado and Valongo, challenging some of the most recognized national and international urban artists to observe the marks of the territory and share their views and testimonies about them, through this unique instrument that is the Urban Art.
‘Ciclista' gives its name to the work that Ruído did in Ermesinde, which celebrates the local traditional toys. A work that started from a visit to one of the workshops that still today (and hopefully for many more years) is dedicated to this craft, the César Craft Workshop, which is without a shadow of a doubt a hallmark and good identity of this territory.
'Brisa' (breeze) is the name of the intervention carried out by the artist Oker, which integrates a set of elements that, in addition to reinforcing and unifying its natural surroundings, indisputable natural heritage of great importance in the evolution and current affairs of the municipality of Valongo, refer to activities outdoor sports, the fauna and flora of the mountains, a unique mark of this territory. The Susão viaduct, once a dark and gray space, between the forgotten and the transparent, has become a mandatory stopover, a bright and colorful space that unites and reinforces its green surroundings.
"Shoot Your Shot" is an English expression that tells us to have courage, audacity and not be afraid to take risks, and that makes a literal and figurative parallel with basketball. A powerful and inspiring message that the artist and typographer João Varela wanted to perpetuate in this location which is assumed to be the first 3x3 field in the Porto area and which is part of the 3x3 BasketArt project of the Portuguese Basketball Federation.
