Débora Umbelino (b. 1994) is best known by the artistic name of Surma. She was born and raised in the small village of Vale do Horto, where she started, from an early age, several adventures with musical projects.
While studying at Secondary School in Leiria she won the ZUS! in 2014 with Backwater & The Screaming Fantasy and in 2015 she started her solo project she called Surma, which quickly ran across the country and began to attract public and press attention. In between, she attended the Jazz course at the Hot Club, specializing in double bass and voice, and ventured into audiovisual post-production.
Surma has also traveled the country from small venues to dozens of festivals such as NOS Alive, Vodafone Paredes de Coura, Bons Sons, Super Bock Super Rock and NOS Primavera Sound.
